Most Nailed FPL Players 2026/27: The Safest Starters by Position

Introduction

Minutes are one of the most underrated parts of Fantasy Premier League. A brilliant player cannot return points from the bench, and a cheap player is not good value if he regularly receives only ten or twenty minutes.

The players below are not guaranteed to start every match. No footballer is completely rotation-proof. They are simply the options whose role, previous starts and current squad position give the strongest evidence of regular league minutes as of 4 August 2026.

Goalkeepers

David Raya (£6.0m) - Arsenal's defensive record and his established role make him the premium set-and-forget option. The price is high, but the minutes risk is low when fit.

Senne Lammens (£5.0m) - Manchester United's early fixtures make him attractive if he remains the confirmed first-choice goalkeeper. His ownership already reflects confidence in the role.

Bart Verbruggen (£4.5m) and Djordje Petrovic (£4.5m) - both sit in the useful budget range. Final pre-season line-ups must still confirm the pecking order before either is treated as a set-and-forget pick.

Defenders

Gabriel (£8.0m) - he produced 209 points last season from 30 starts and offers clean sheets, set-piece threat and defensive contribution potential. His price is exceptional, but so are his routes to points.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) - Liverpool's early schedule and his importance in the centre of defence make him one of the safer premium defenders.

Tyrick Mitchell (£4.5m) - he was the highest-scoring defender priced below £5.0m in the previous campaign. The main question is whether Crystal Palace's new manager keeps a system that suits him.

Bobby Thomas (£4.0m) - a promoted centre-back who could offer bench value if pre-season confirms he is first choice. His potential for defensive contribution points increases his appeal.

Midfielders

Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) - Manchester United's captain, creator and leading set-piece option is the strongest minutes-security pick among the premium midfielders.

Bukayo Saka (£9.5m) - Arsenal had few midfielders who started more than 21 matches last season, while Saka remained central despite an injury-hit campaign.

Cole Palmer (£9.5m) - Chelsea's lack of European football should reduce rotation pressure. A new manager adds tactical uncertainty, but Palmer remains the most important attacking asset in the squad.

Forwards

Erling Haaland (£15.5m) - the price is enormous, but his role and captaincy appeal remain straightforward. When fit, he is Manchester City's central goal threat.

Igor Thiago (£8.0m) - 37 starts and 22 goals last season make him one of the strongest role-security forwards outside the premium bracket.

Alexander Isak (£9.0m) - Liverpool's current forward situation gives him a route to the central role, but his injury history and pre-season availability need monitoring.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.0m) - his penalty role and 14-goal season strengthen his case, although fitness should always be checked close to the deadline.

William Osula (£6.0m) - five goals across seven late-season starts were encouraging, but he is a watchlist player rather than a fully secure starter until pre-season confirms the role.

How to use minutes scores

A 9 or 10 should mean a highly secure starter when fit. A 7 or 8 means expected to start most matches but with some tactical or substitution risk. A 5 or 6 means rotation is a genuine concern.

Do not judge a player only by whether he starts Gameweek 1. Consider whether his role remains secure once injured team-mates return, European matches begin and new signings settle.
