Introduction

Pre-publication warning

Pre-publication check: This is a provisional pre-season list. Recheck the official FPL Set-Piece Takers page before publishing and after every major role change.

Set pieces can turn an ordinary FPL option into an excellent one. Penalties provide high-value shooting opportunities, while corners and free-kicks create assists and bonus-point potential.

The table below records the current expected duties shown by the official FPL Set-Piece Takers resource. Roles can change after transfers, missed penalties, substitutions and tactical decisions.

The official FPL resource is an expected-duty list, not a confirmed order. Where multiple names appear in a cell, treat the role as provisional competition rather than a guarantee.

How to interpret the table

First-choice penalty status is more valuable than occasional corners, but it must be supported by minutes. A substitute penalty taker is not useful if he rarely starts.

Shared corners can still matter when a player also creates chances from open play. A player who takes only one side of the pitch may not receive enough set pieces to justify selection on that factor alone.

New signings and promoted clubs carry more uncertainty. Previous-club duties provide a clue, but they do not guarantee the same responsibility in the Premier League.

The strongest current set-piece profiles

Bruno Fernandes combines penalties, direct free-kicks and corners with a highly secure creative role.

Haaland's penalty duties add another route to points for a player already expected to lead Manchester City's attack.

Palmer remains central to Chelsea's penalty discussion and can also share other dead-ball work.

Saka is a major Arsenal penalty candidate, while Rice and Odegaard remain important for corners and free-kicks.

Calvert-Lewin's penalty status strengthens his value at £6.0m if fitness and starts are secure.

Final verdict: Buy

Use setpiece responsibility as a tiebreaker, not as the only reason to buy a player. Minutes, team quality, fixtures and openplay involvement still matter. The safest combination is a regular starter who takes penalties and at least some corners or freekicks. Rate My Team Want advice based on your own squad?
